What makes international conferences so popular? There can be many answers to this question, but among them you can find two: the opportunity to personally meet and communicate with various colleagues from your area and travel.
According to legend, Lao Tzu wrote: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." So my trip to Jyväskylä began with the first step, the role of which can be attributed to the application for the conference in the winter.

The title of my talk this time was «Introduction to Multimodal Data Analysis Approach for Creation of Library Catalogues of Heterogeneous Objects». After the results of the application for the contest became known, we began to actively prepare for the trip. The road was ahead of me through Helsinki. I again chose the train "Allegro" in order to get to the capital of Finland. This is a convenient and comfortable way of crossing the border, which requires nothing but a ticket and a passport with a visa. You do not even need to get up! Border services of both Russia and Finland can communicate relatively freely with passengers in three languages: Russian, Finnish and English, which is especially nice if you go to Suomi without knowing Finnish or Swedish (which is also a state language here).
The conference was held in mid-May, and the weather was sunny. The train from St. Petersburg was leaving at 6:40 am, which gave me an excellent opportunity to enjoy a trip during the daytime and one day to get to Jyväskylä.
From Helsinki to Jyväskylä, I also traveled by train, but already local. A special pleasure from traveling inside the country was to observe the local inhabitants and their peculiarities. It was also interesting to observe the nature changing outside the window. Despite the fact that Finland is very close to St. Petersburg, there are differences.
Outside the window flashed various trees: mostly pine and birches. And the railroad of Finland itself looped a lot, going around swamps, lakes and rocks, driving crazy GPS and getting into such towns, which, it seems, are not on the road at all.
I arrived in Jyväskylä the day before the day of the performance. Unfortunately, the circumstances developed in such a way that I could not attend all the days of the conference. The next morning on the hilly parks of Jyväskylä I came from the hotel to the university.
The modern campus of the University is picturesquely located on the shore of the lake. The architecture of its buildings, obviously, was originally designed for the university, which determined the logic and convenience in using it for this purpose. There was a suitable interior as well as an exterior. In May, juicy, green lawns separated the body from the lake and were either flooded with bicycles or students who were stading right on the grass. I visited only one building, but it also gave a nice impression of the beauty of the building inside. There were also wide, spacious corridors and comfortable arrangement of doors in the audience, and a well thought out layout of the sockets in modern lecture rooms.
Inside the hull I was kindly greeted, and, after registration, I received a badge and a coupon for dinner in the dining room, although between the sections in the hall there was fine tea and biscuits, behind which it was possible to discuss with colleagues any concept or ask additional questions to the speakers.
Among the speeches at the conference there were many interesting reports. We wanted to read more about many of them. Fortunately, you can do this almost immediately after the conference here.

As speakers, there were those with whom I had already met at other conferences, including FRUCT21. It's nice to get scientific communications in a personal conversation on the report. I would like to think that this journey is not over, and this is only the very first steps on a long scientific path.

По преданию, Лао-Цзы писал: «Путешествие длиной в тысячу миль начинается с одного шага». Так и моё путешествие в Ювяскюля началось с первого шага, роль которого модно приписать подаче заявки на конференцию ещё зимой.

Темой моего доклада в этот раз стало «Introduction to Multimodal Data Analysis Approach for Creation of Library Catalogues of Heterogeneous Objects». После того, как стали известны результаты прохождения заявки на конкурс, мы начали активно готовиться к поездке. Дорога мне предстояла через Хельсинки. Я вновь выбрала поезд «Аллегро» для того, чтобы добраться до столицы Финляндии. Это удобный и комфортный способ пересечения границы, не требующий ничего, кроме как билета и паспорта с визой. Вам даже не нужно вставать с места! Пограничные службы как России, так и Финляндии могут относительно свободно общаться с пассажирами на трёх языках: русском, финском и английском, что особенно приятно, если Вы направляетесь в Суоми без знания финского или шведского языка (который здесь также является государственным языком).
Конференция проходила в середине мая, и погода стояла солнечная. Поезд из Санкт-Петербурга уходил в 6:40 утра, что давало мне прекрасную возможность насладиться поездкой в светлое время суток и одним днём добраться до Ювяскюля.
Ни смотря на то, что Финляндия находится совсем рядом с Санкт-Петербургом, отличия всё же есть. За окном мелькали разные деревья: в основном сосны и берёзы. А сама железная дорога Финляндии много петляла, объезжая болота, озёра и скалы, сводя с ума GPS и заводя в такие города, которые, кажется, совсем не по пути.
Я прибыла в Ювяскюля за день до дня выступления. К сожалению, обстоятельства сложились таким образом, что я не могла присутствовать во все дни проведения конференции. Утром следующего дня по холмистым паркам Ювяскюля я дошла от отеля до университета.
Современный кампус университета живописно расположился на берегу озера. Архитектура его зданий, очевидно, изначально проектировалась для университета, что определило логику и удобство в использовании его именно для этой цели. Тут был как подходящий интерьер, так и экстерьер. По-майски сочные, зеленые лужайки отделяли корпус от озера и были либо завалены велосипедами, либо студентами, которые занимались прямо на траве. Я побывала только в одном корпусе, но и это позволило получить приятное впечатление о красоте здания внутри. Тут были и широкие, просторные коридоры и комфортное расположение дверей в аудитории, и продуманная схема расположения розеток в современных лекционных аудиториях.
Внутри корпуса меня любезно встретили и после регистрации выдали бейдж и талон на обед в столовую, хотя между секциями в холле был прекрасный чай и булочки, за которыми можно было обсудить с коллегами какую-либо концепцию или задать дополнительные вопросы докладчикам. Среди выступлений на конференции было много интересных докладов. Со многими из них нам захотелось ознакомиться подробнее. К счастью, сделать это можно почти сразу после конференции по ссылке .
Особое радушие и заботу о проведении конференции, как всегда, проявлял профессор Баландин, за что его отдельно хотелось бы поблагодарить.
В качестве докладчиков были и те, с кем я уже успела познакомиться на других конференциях, в том числе и FRUCT21. Приятно обзаводиться научными коммуникациями в личной беседе по вопросам доклада.
Любопытно, что всё моё путешествие составило примерно полторы тысячи километров, что по грубым расчётам равно тысяче миль. Хотелось бы думать, что это путешествие не закончено, а это только самые первые шаги на длинном научном пути.
